Benefits of Thai Body Massage

Benefits of Thai Body Massage

Thai Body Massage includes stretches and beep breathing. Your therapist may encourage a quiet meditative state.

It was designed to increase circulation, calm the nervous system, and increase flexibility, range of motion and energy. Typically, joint mobilization and muscle compressions are involved with this session.
Thai full body massage uses no oil, is given on the floor on a mat, and is performed with the client fully clothed. You are also encouraged to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
Thai body massage usually lasts for one hour. The therapist may use his/her hands, arms, elbows, knees or feet during the session to move your body into yoga-type stretching positions.

It is believed that Thai types of massage therapy were developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, Buddha's physician, over 2000 years ago. Through the centuries, it was passed down to and performed by monks as another element to Thai medicine treatment.

Over the years, many Ayervedic techniques have been incorporated into the massage, making this bodywork more rigorous than any of the traditional types of massage therapy.

Thai Yoga Massage is a holistic, meditative, and interactive style of bodywork that originated in India over 2,500 years ago. While it is the traditional form of bodywork in Thailand, Thai Yoga Massage has its historical roots in the Ayurvedic tradition of healing. Sometimes referred to as 'assisted yoga', Thai Yoga Massage incorporates elements of yoga, stretching, breathing, acupressure, and rhythmic compression along energy lines. It is deeply relaxing and grounding, yet also energizing and balancing.

While traditional Thai Yoga Massage is practiced on a comfortable futon or mat, many of the poses may be adapted to the massage table. Unlike conventional western styles of bodywork, Thai Yoga massage does not use oil or lotion. And because these sessions include stretching and ROM movements, both the practitioner and client wear loose, comfortable clothing such as a cotton shirt and shorts, or a sweatshirt with sweatpants.

It is common for the practitioner to use his/her hands, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet to work the Sen energy lines and to help stretch their client. Typical sessions last between 1.5 - 3 hours in length and often result in the client feeling looser, taller, grounded, relaxed and energized.

Proper body mechanics are a necessity when practicing Thai Yoga Massage. Because the practitioner uses gravity, leverage, and their own body weight to stretch their client, it is physically very easy on the giver. Plus, the practitioner receives stretches in their own body, which aids in self-care and prolongs the longevity of their career in the healing arts.
